103年度計畫成果報告表

國際生與本地生財經文化議題思辯及海外實習工作能力培養
Stage 1 On cultural diversity Five weeks were used to talk about several international current affairs topics. One week was devoted to discussion about the Corruption Perception Index in different countries. This measures the level of corruption within various countries of the world. Two weeks (total 6 hours) were devoted to discussion of the Legatum Prosperity Index which measures the level of wealth across different regions of the earth. The topics for two further weeks were on cosmetic surgery and another on eye surgery in Korea as a manifestation of ‘Western imperialism’. Newspaper articles and news videos were both employed as teaching materials, and to promote discussion among the students. All students must participate in discussion and any online polls conducted, which they did with great interest.Students were able to gain a better understanding of the economic and cultural position of various countries on these topics. This was due both to the teaching materials, and also by asking exchange students from other European and Asian countries who are attending this class to talk about the viewpoints of their culture on topics discussed.Stage 2 On realistic global interview skill training We have covered job search categories, job listings, job applications, cover letters, and resumes in our practice. Both a traditional interview approach and behavioral interview approach can be used to make students familiar with the real world setting.Students will be prepared ahead of time, rather than having to think of a response on the spot during the interview in English. In a behavioral job interview, the company has already decided and stated what skills are needed in the person they hire, and they will ask questions to find out if the candidate has those skills. Behavioral interview questions will be more focused than traditional interview questions, and students will need to respond with special examples of how they handle (or might handle) situations in the workplace. All these interviews are watched by other class members online, and also recorded. They can be shared and used for improvement in any future interview performances on other occasions.
